Do It Yourself Cloud Computing Environment

The growth in the acceptance of cloud computing has in effect descreased our reliance on high end desktops and laptops to the point where 'netbooks' is becoming a common word.

But what if a corporation wanted to 'safely' explore the virtues of cloud computing? In comes EyeOS, all one needs is a copy of the EyeOS installation files and web-server to host it on.

And from their wiki, EyeOS benefits are:

  • Being able to work from everywhere, regardless of whether or not you are using a full-featured, modern computer, a mobile gadget, or a completely obsolete PC.
  • Sharing resources easily between different work centers at company, or working from different places and countries on the same projects.
  • Always enjoying the same applications with the same open formats, and forgetting the usual compatibility problems between office suites and traditional operating systems.
  • Being able to continue working if you have to leave your local computer or if it just crashes, without loosing data or time: Just log in to your eyeOS from another place and continue working.
  • A Portable Password Manager - KeyDb

This is a very useful application for anyone who has to remember more than 3 passwords. Its key features are its AES-256bit encryption and portability.

Just the thing for the frequent traveler and the frequent forgetter!

Using a Wiimote as an Input Device - Part IV

And after a bit of cut 'n' paste magic we now have a very basic GlovePIE script that we can use to control our avatar in Second Life.

So, in summary we need to follow the following steps for it all to work together.
    1. 'connect' the Wiimote to the PC via Bluetooth
    2. startup GlovePIE
    3. run our script and don't forget to fine tune it
    4. startup SecondLife
    5. and enjoy!
    End of Part IV
